Govt buildings, schemes to have prefix Bihar Shatabdi

Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said that the name of every major government building constructed in the 100th year of the creation of Bihar and new policies and schemes announced would carry the prefix Bihar Shatabdi (Bihar Centenary) to commemorate the celebration of the grant of statehood.

Speaking at the special session of the Bihar Legislative Council in the newly spruced up Seminar Hall of the Patna College, he said that Bihar would be completing its 100th year on March 22 and the state governments have planned to organize various programmes in this regard.

The Chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council Tara Kant Jha called the occasion historic and said that Bihar had given a message of peace to the entire world.

Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who is also the member of the Upper House, referred to changes that had occurred in the class composition of the Council since its inception, when more than half its members were British.

Both the chief minister and deputy chief minister justified the existence of Legislative Council.

Six books brought out by the Council on list of members, profile of members, history of the Council, Biharnama, were released on the occasion.

Chief Minister also released a book Dharohar about the first session of the Council.

The campus on which 150 years old Patna College is at present situated has been the centre of business, administrative and educational activities ever since the reign of Aurangzeb.

As it is situated on the bank of river Ganga the Dutch first established their factories in the central portion of the main building in 17th century, almost a century before the British conquered Bihar. Then it also served as opium godown.

It was used as the local collectorate when the senior classes of the College were shifted here from Patna City in February, 1863.

It was in the Seminar Hall of the College that on this day in 1913 the first session of the Council took place.
