Tribals get arms licence in Rohtas district

Patna,(BiharTimes): Weeks after they applied for arms licence 61 tribals of Chenari, Rohtas and Nauhata blocks of Rohtas districts got arms from the state government for fighting the Maoists’ menace. They were provided the licence for self-defence.

As reported earlier in BiharTimes over 500 tribals have been living in the base camp of Chenari for the last six months as they were attacked repeatedly by the Maoists. Five persons were killed, 13 others injured and 21 houses set ablaze by Maoists in July last.

According to the district magistrate, Rohtas, Anupam Kumar, they have been given arms licence to instil confidence in them and for the self-defence. Sources said that the licences were given to them after proper verification and assessment of threat from Maoists.

The DM said that 12 of them have even bought arms and presented them to police authorities for verification on Friday.

Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj advised them not to misuse firearms else the licence would be cancelled.
