Nitish opposes 4.5% quota for backward Minorities, supports Karpoori formula

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday opposed 4.5 per cent reservation for backward Minorities under 27 per cent OBC quota.
Criticizing the UPA government for alluring the minority community ahead of Assembly polls in five states he, instead, called for the implementation of Karpoori formula by the Centre, which makes special provision for the Most Backward Castes.

Speaking at a function to mark the 88th birth anniversary of the former chief minister Karpoori Thakur he said that 4.5 per cent quota for Minorities OBC was unlikely to change the conditions of backward Muslims and may create discord among the minority and the majority population.

Nitish said that it the Centre was really sincere about improving the condition of the Muslims, it should amend the Constitution to increase reservation beyond 50 per cent.
