Medha Patekar upset over denial of meeting with Nitish, blasts State
govt for inaction

Patna,(BiharTimes): Narmada Bachao Andolan leader and noted social activist Medha Patekar, is upset at being denied meeting by the chief minister Nitish Kumar. She was stopped at Hartali Chowk on Friday while leading a delegation to meet Nitish Kumar.

Addressing a gathering at Hartali Chowk after being stopped on Friday she said she wanted to raise issues of large-scale displacement in the name of development, rise in cases of atrocities and exploitation of the weaker section of the society and police barbarity in Bhajanpur village under Forbesganj sub-division of Araria district.

She came down heavily on the Nitish government for what she said faulty and discriminatory Bihar Slums Development Policy 2011 and accused it of overlooking the displacement of the poor in urban areas.

Medha said that she was denied an appointment with Nitish on the plea that he was preoccupied.

She charged the Nitish government with soft-pedalling the issues of breach of embankment of river Kosi in 2008 which caused unprecedented floods and Forbesganj police firing.

She asked the state government to take steps to speed up the inquiry into both the issues.
