BJP will not encourage desertions from JD-U in Bihar: Modi

Patna, July 10 (IANS) The BJP in Bihar will not allow leaders of alliance partner JD-U to join it, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said Tuesday, adding that his party will not violate the 'lakshaman rekha' (rules) of coalition politics.

The coalition politics has it's own rule, the Bharatiya Janata Party will not cross 'lakshaman rekha' of coalition politics, Modi said here, a day after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that any Janata Dal-United leader was free to quit the party and join the BJP.

"Anybody wanting to quit JD-U can do so and join BJP," Kumar had said.

Kumar's statement came in reference to war of words between BJP and JD-U leaders after former BJP legislator Sanjay Jha quit his party and joined JD-U in his presence last week.

Modi said that Sanjay Jha case was an exception, it was not a common case. Jha had informed the party leaders before he joined the JD-U, he said.

Two days ago, the state BJP president C.P. Thakur claimed that several JD-U leaders were in touch to join the party.

But BJP and JD-U leaders had exposed their growing bitterness over one or the other issue since last month.

The JD(U) also targeted the BJP and said several party leaders, including parliamentarians and legislators were in touch to cross over any time.
