Patna,(BiharTimes): Productivity of staple grains, rice and wheat have more than doubled in the past decade in Paliganj block of Patna district thanks to a technology mission in agriculture initiated by former President A P J Abdul Kalam. According to Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) Director, Gautam Goswami, who looked after the Mission in Paliganj, Mission Mode Programme of Technology Vision 2020 was launched in 2000, and it was aimed at filling the technology gap for increasing crop productivity.
 | Goswami said prior to the Mission Rice productivity in Paliganj was two tonne per hectare which has now risen to about five tonne a hectare. For wheat the productivity was less than two tonne per hectare, which has now jumped to 4-5 tonne per hectare. The Mission run by TIFAC, part of Ministry of Science and Technology, under close supervision of Kalam has brought a turnaround in the economy of farmers in Paliganj block. Though the Mission in Paliganj came to an end last year TIFAC still keep track of the progress through different agencies.
