Pilot project for distribution of foodgrains to be launched soon

Patna,(BiharTimes): For doorstep delivery of foodgrains to the BPL/APL ration card holders, the Bihar government will soon launch a pilot project in 38 blocks of the state.
According to state Food and Consumer Protection Minister Shyam Rajak a block each in all 38 districts have been identified for launch of the project to ensure doorstep delivery of the foodgrains to the ration card holders.

Addressing a workshop in Patna on Wednesday he said the storage facilities, including godowns, would be set up in the these blocks for smooth transportation of the foodgrains at the door of the beneficiaries.

He said trucks transporting foodgrains would be equipped with the GPS to track their movement and eradicate corruption and irregularities in the PDS. A security guard and another employee would also be recruited to maintain record of stocks at godowns.

Rajak said that an announcement would be made with the help of loudspeakers in the villages to inform them about arrival of the foodgrains and distribution so that they could lift their quota.

The state has 1.37 crore BPL/APL families comprising 25 lakh poor families entitled for foodgrains under the Antodaya scheme.
