PMCH junior doctors strike enters fifth day

Patna,(BiharTimes): As Japanese encephalitis continues to take its toll the 650 junior doctors of the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) remained on strike for the fifth day on Monday.

However, the state government claimed that it had taken all necessary measures to handle the situation.
Sources said that officials of the health department might hold dialogue with the junior doctors at PMCH on Monday in an effort to break the deadlock.

PMCH principal Dr N P Yadav renewed his appeal to junior doctors to call off their strike. He maintained that alternative arrangements had been made to deal with the situation and that there was no obstacle in running the hospital.

He said a team of 30 doctors has been deputed at the hospital from other places to take care of patients. A few more doctors are supposed to be deputed soon.

Among other things the junior doctors are demanding the removal of PMCH superintendent and arrest of those involved in beating up their colleagues on June 13 night. Relatives of encephalitis patient who died reportedly manhandled the junior doctors.

Meanwhile, the new principal secretary, health, Vyasji Mishra said that it is unfortunate the junior doctors are spoiling their future. They should have served patients instead of getting involved in violent acts. He said his doors are still open for them. But they cannot hold the government to ransom.

On the other hand the president of PMCH Junior Doctors’ Association, Dr Rakesh Kumar, said that they would run a parallel OPD from 9 in the morning on Monday.
