Patna,(BiharTimes): Junior doctors and interns of Patna-based Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, Gaya and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Bhagalpur on Thursday joined the indefinite strike called by their colleagues at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). | Medics of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital had already gone on strike since the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Postgraduate doctors of NMCH, and interns at ANMMCH, Gaya, and JNMC, Bhagalpur, did not report to work on Thursday. As reported earlier the doctors at PMCH have been on the strike since June 14 following a quarrel with attendants of a suspected acute encephalitis syndrome patient. One of the junior doctors was beaten up by the relatives of the patient who had died on June 13 night. The junior doctors later assaulted hospital superintendent Dr O P Chaudhary when he intervened. Apart from better security arrangements the agitating members of the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) have been demanding removal of Chaudhary from the post and restriction on number of attendants per patient in various wards. The deadlock is unlikely to end in coming few days as the chief minister, Nitish Kumar and the health minister, Ashwini Choubey, are too much politically preoccupied. All this is happening when about 225 patients have died of Japanese encephalitis in the state.
