Bihar asks Centre to stop charging toll on Gandhi Setu

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar government has asked the Centre to stop charging toll on Mahatma Gandhi Setu as the long traffic queues were further damaging it.

This request was made by the state in a meeting between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, C P Joshi, in New Delhi on Tuesday.

As already reported the Centre has also given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Bihar for setting up another bridge east of Patna.

The Bihar government has paid the Centre a sum of Rs 145 crore in form of toll tax from the bridge since it was constructed in 1982. Currently, the annual toll earning from the bridge is Rs 9 crore.
