PMCH Junior Doctors call off strike

Patna,(BiharTimes): The junior doctors of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) called off their 14-day strike on Wednesday evening after what, according to them, most of their demands had been met. They immediately resumed duty.

However, the junior doctors of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital and Nalanda Medical College and Hospital have decided to continue their strike.

The Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) said almost all their demands have been met. The foremost was better security. They said they wanted deployment of ex-armymen on the campus for the security of the junior doctors. They have received a written assurance from Patna senior superintendent of police Amrit Raj that a group of 45 stick-wielding constables would be on the campus 24 hours a day. They have already been deployed.

The second demand of the junior doctors was the implementation of the Medical Protection Act. The JDA said that it has been told by the administration that the two persons arrested in connection with the assault on them on June 13 evening have been booked under the Act.

The third demand was the removal of PMCH superintendent, Dr O P Choudhary. This has been a long-standing demand. The administration has assured them of checking his work record, the JDA claimed.

The JDA also demanded that no legal action should be taken against anyone of them. It said that the administration had assured them that no action would be taken against any innocent doctor.

However, the principal of the Patna Medical College, N P Yadav, said that the JDA had not laid down any pre-condition for the withdrawal of strike. They called off their strike only after meeting him.

Dr Yadav assured that their demands, especially related to better security, would be met. However, he added that the removal of Dr Choudhary did not figure during the meeting.
