Janata Dal (United) not drifting towards UPA, Congress: Sharad

Patna,(BiharTimes): A day after Pranab Mukherjee filed his nomination papers with the support of various NDA parties, Janata Dal (United) national president, Sharad Yadav, on Friday strongly denied that his party was drifting towards Congress and UPA.

Talking to newsmen in New Delhi he termed this perception as an absurd. On Narendra Modi as prime ministerial candidate he said first, BJP will decide on it within its party. The issue will come to NDA only then.

He said none of three alliances––UPA, NDA or Left––are divided. That was the biggest message when Mukherjee filed his nomination on Thursday. Clarifying his absence he said nobody from Janata Dal (United), Shiv Sena, CPI-M or Forward Bloc went there. This shows there is no rift in either NDA or Left. Even UPA would remain united as its ally Mamata Banerjee appears to have no choice other than backing Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature or abstaining from voting. Presidential election has not caused divide in any of the three alliances.

He said that his party supported Pranab only because he knows the country and only such a person should occupy the high office and not one, who is dependent on advisors for all decision.

This does not mean that his party’s opposition to Congress-led UPA has lessened. He once again made it clear that his party does not support the economic policy of the UPA.
