Chamber flays govt for harassing traders in name of Suvidha system

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though the Bihar Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Suvidha system, that is yet to be introduced to check tax evasion and facilitate the tax payers, it strongly criticized the state government’s commercial tax department officials for harassing traders in its name.

In a statement the Chamber president O P Sah said though Suvidha system is aimed at minimizing tax evasion and augmenting the government revenue, it strongly opposes the unnecessary harassment to the taxpayers in the name of the new system.

Citing examples he said thousands of trucks carrying goods were stopped by the commercial taxes authorities at various interstate check-posts such as Mohania, Jalalpur, Dobhi and other places on the plea that they did not carry the token number issued under the Suvidha system.

Sah said that when a provision required constitutional nod for its implementation, forcing dealers to comply with such provision was not only an anti-dealer act but completely unconstitutional and against the law. Incidents like this would badly affect the government revenue and would serve as a bottleneck in the economic growth of the state.

Urging chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi to order an independent inquiry into the matter the BCC chief strongly opposed the unnecessary harassment to the taxpayers in the name of the new system
