India beat Iran to lift Women’s World Cup Kabaddi Championship

Patna,(BiharTimes): Asian Gold Medallist India lifted the first Women’s World Cup Kabaddi Championship after defeating Iran 25-19 in the final in the indoor hall of Patliputra Sports Complex at Kankarbagh here on Sunday evening. Japan was declared third and Thailand fourth. India won the toss and elected to field. Indian skipper
Mamatha Poojari and Iranian Ghazal Khalaj excelled in their performance and were the top scorers of their respective teams with eight points each.

Earlier, India reached the final after defeating Japan 59-20 while Iran outplayed Thailand.Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi handed over the trophy to Indian captain Mamatha. Shatrughan Sinha, MP, gave the runners-up trophy to Iranian skipper. President of the International Kabaddi Federation Janardan Singh, HRD minister Prashant Kumar Shahi and principal secretary of HRD Anjani Kumar Singh were also present on the occasion.While matches were going on inside the stadium there were clashes between police and a large number of spectators outside. The surging crowd wanted to gatecrash into the stadium forcing the police to use force. In retaliation the crowd pelted stones.
