RTI activists seek removal of Bihar CIC

Patna,(BiharTimes): Prominent RTI activists of Bihar have sought the immediate removal of the Chief Information Commissioner, A K Chaudhary, abolition of the rule which limits only one query per application, arrest of those involved in the killing of RTI activist, Ram Vilas Sharma in Lakhisarai and payment of compensation to his family members and immediate brake on witch-hunting against all the RTI activists.

Under the banner of Soochna Ka Adhikar Jan Abhiyan they organized a day-long dharna at R-Block on Friday, on the occasion of the first-day of the International Conference on RTI and formed human chain with black badges on the mouths on Saturday to press their demands.

They charged that the state government organized the RTI Conference with the World Bank money at the most expensive hotel of Patna to borrow international attention but the ground reality is something very different. Seeking information is very difficult in Bihar and the CIC A K Chaudhary, they alleged, is rejecting a large number of applications every day and shielding the corrupt officials. Those who took part in the dharna and human chain included Mahendra Yadav, Vinay Sharma, Sunil Kumar, Baby Kumari, Ashok Kumar, Manilal, Bindu Kumari, Dharmendra Kumar, Naiyer Fatmi, Roshan, Vineet, Sarfraz, Gorelal Manishi, Raj Kishore Madhukar, Manish Anand, Motilal, Manoj, Arun Arya, Mujahid, Zaheb Ajmal and others. It needs to be recalled that former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice A P Shah, had also criticized the Nitish government for limiting RTI query to one question per application. Shah, who attended the two-day conference did not hesitate in keeping his view and said that the state government move was in contravention of the RTI Act and appealed to the state government to drop it.
