After over 3½  years Justice Balia starts public hearing on Kosi deluge

Patna,(BiharTimes): Three and a half years after the Kosi deluge of August 2008 Justice Rajesh Balia made the first public hearing on Monday. It would continue till Friday.

Several engineers and other people appeared before the Commission. Social activist Vinay Sharma also cross-examined them.

However, while talking to BiharTimes he demanded security as he feared that some vested interest are against him.

He said that the Commission did not make the audio-visual recording of the hearing, which he said is essential.

The Commission started its hearing after much hue and cry by social activists and other groups. Even Medha Patkar recently visited the Kosi belt and strongly criticised the state government’s inaction.

Meanwhile, Mahendra Kumar, one of those who are in the forefront of the movement for the rehabilitation of the displaced people alleged that all efforts are being made to hush up the matter. If the truth comes out the state government would be in serious trouble, he told BiharTimes.
