RS candidature: BJP divided between Shatru and friend

Patna,(BiharTimes): Old rivalry has cropped up between two BJP stalwarts of Bihar belonging to the same caste over the Rajya Sabha candidature.

Patna Saheb MP and film-star, Shatrughan Sinha, has thrown his weight behind multi-millionaire R K Sinha, engaged in running international security agency. Incidentally he too is a Kayastha.

Till now Rajya Sabha MP and party’s national level leader, Ravi Shankar Prasad, has been staking claim over this seat. However, to get him nominated for the third time the party will have to abandon the principle of not sending any MP into the Upper House of the Parliament for third time in a row.

Ravi Shankar is party’s national spokesman and like the Bihari Babu a former  Union minister. He even wanted to contest the Patna Saheb Lok Sabha election in May 2009, but the ticket went to Shatru. Last October he coordinated Lal Krishna Advani’s Jan Chetna Yatra against corruption from Sitab Diara.

R K Sinha is on the other hand owner of the top security agency of the country, SIS. He too nurses a political ambition and wanted to contest the 2009 Lok Sabha election from Patna Saheb. He has been associated with the party for the last four decades, that is Jan Sangh days.

Shatrughan Sinha was quoted in the media as saying that R K Sinha is the most deserving candidate for the Rajya Sabha from Bihar. He has served the party from tan, man, dhan (body, mind and wealth) without getting any reward so far. He must be rewarded this time, he added.

Interestingly, this internecine war within the BJP came at the time when the alliance partner, the Janata Dal (United) is not prepared to leave the fourth seat for the party.
