JD(U) prevails over BJP, to contest four RS seats

Patna,(BiharTimes): Four Janata Dal(United) and two BJP nominees on Monday filed their nomination papers for the six Rajya Sabha seats for which election is going to take place later this month. Monday, incidentally, was the last day of filing nominations.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi were present in the state Assembly on the occasion. This ended about a fortnight-long suspense over seat-sharing arrangement. The issue reached its climax on Sunday when the chief ministers held two rounds of talks with Arun Jaitley, the leader of the BJP in Rajya Sabha in New Delhi.

While the Janata Dal (United) retained Ali Anwar Ansari, King Mahendra Prasad and Anil Sahni the state party chief, Vashisth Narayan Singh, is the fourth candidate of the party.

The BJP, abandoining its policy of not nominating anyone thrice, re-nominated Ravi Shankar Prasad, party’s national spokesman. Its second candidate is Bihar incharge of the party Dharmendra Pradhan.

Thus it is once again the BJP which had to yield its ground to Janata Dal (United). Thus the two NDA alliance shared the two RJD seats vacated by the retirement of Jabir Husain and Rajniti Prasad. Earlier, the BJP was in no mood to compromise and even the name of R K Sinha, the owner of security agency, SIS, was announced. There were reports of Jaitley contesting from Bihar instead of Gujarat. But the party once again changed its plan.
