Senior PMCH doctor attacked by students: Nitish orders probe

Patna,(BiharTimes): A day after the head of the department of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Dr S K Jaiswal, of the Patna Medical College and Hospital was assaulted by the pre-final year students on Tuesday chief minister Nitish Kumar had ordered a probe into the incident.

According to official sources the chief minister had also ordered registration of case in connection with the incident. Earlier reports said that the medicos had gone on rampage after 40 out of 92 students were marked failed. They not only beat up Dr Jaiswal but also created a ruckus on the campus, especially in Outpatient Department (OPD). His car was also damaged.

The students also targeted the PMCH property. Some mediapersons were also roughed up.The principal of Patna Medical College, N P Yadav, assured that disciplinary action would be taken against the students, who were involved in the incident.The PMCH has witnessed several incidents of violence in the past few years.

Cases of clashes between Junior Doctors and attendants are regular phenomenon. Fed up by the regular incident of violence Nitish Kumar once even threatened to close down the PMCH.In one such incident cases were filed against a dozen Junior Doctors. But the government developed cold feet after several senior BJP and Janata Dal (United) leaders intervened on behalf of the students.
