IGIMS goes PMCH way: Medicos go on rampage after shooting incident

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science started the MBBS course only a few months back. But on Friday the whole campus got reduced into a battlefield with medical students doubling as mobsters.

But they have some reasons to take law into their hands––this is at least what they argue. Two of their friends were shot and injured by some unidentified persons while they were strolling on Thursday night on the campus. Since the police failed to nab the miscreants the students of first year went wild.
Rohit Lal and Ajeet Vidyarthi were rushed to the Emergency Ward of the hospital for treatment just after they received injuries.
On Friday the medicos forced the closure of various departments. They sought support of their friends in PMCH and a Leftist students’ body.
According to the IGIMS director, Dr Arun Kumar, they targeted the telephone exchange and vandalized the property of the institute. He said that the entire incident was videographed and those who indulged in arson have been identified and interrogated by the police.
Meanwhile, the MBBS hostel has been vacated by 10:00 PM on Friday. Girl students have been asked to leave by 10:00 AM on Saturday.
Though the medicos went berserk the police failed to arrest those involved in attack even 24 hours after the incident.
On the other hand the PMCH once again shot into the news for the same old reason. Clash between Junior Doctors and attendants triggered a wild cat strike by the former.
The doctors alleged that some of their colleagues were assaulted by relatives of a woman patient of Gopalganj who died on Friday.
According to PMCH superintendent, O P Chaudhary, alternative arrangements have been made to run the hospital smoothly. He confirmed that the doctors were targeted by the relatives of the deceased.
