PMCH alumni receives award in the United States

Patna,(BiharTimes): Suresh Prasad, an alumni of Patna Medical College and Hospital, and now based in Odessa in USA, got the Texas Tech University award.

According to media reports he was the first Odessan nominated for the School of Medicine Distinguished Alumni Community Outreach Award on March 22.

He is an internal medicine practitioner and clinical assistant professor at the Texas Tech Health Science Center, received the School of Medicine Distinguished Alumni Community Outreach Award on March 22.


While Prasad’s award was initially given in 2010, the biannual ceremony was not held until recently. He was one of four people honoured at the ceremony.


His wife, Dr Kalpana Prasad, was quoted in the local media as saying: “I was very proud of him, I know he works hard.”


Suresh and Kalpana Prasad share their practice in Odessa where he specializes in sleep medicine and internal medicine.


The Distinguished Awards are given to community physicians who have demonstrated notable support and service to the School of Medicine and Texas Tech has been awarding them since 1999.

 

In addition to his teaching work at Texas Tech, Prasad a staff physician at Odessa Regional Medical Centre and at Basin Health Centre, a clinical trial investigator and holds several administrative positions.


At least once a month for about the past 10 years, Suresh Prasad said, he has been speaking to residents and physicians in the Permian
Basin and surrounding communities to educate them about health and changes in medicine.


“I always talk about the new developments in medicine,” Suresh Prasad was quoted as saying.


After graduating from PMCH in 1992 Dr Prasad went on to finish the first year of his internal medicine internship in Chicago before he was transferred in 1997 to Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Odessa.


Some of his awards include the Bridge to Excellence Physician award from Blue Cross/Blue Shield, recognition for management of diabetes by the American Diabetes Association and the National Council of Quality Assurance and was elected for fellowship in 2010 by the American College of Physicians.
