IGIMS to resume classes on April 9

Patna,(BiharTimes): Teaching at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, will resume from April 9. Classes were suspended as the Institute was closed sine die on March 23 following large scale violence in protest against the shoot-out on previous night on the campus.

Two first year students were injured while they were taking a walk on the campus on March 22 (Bihar Diwas) night.Boy students were asked to vacate their hostels on March 23 night while girl students on March 24 morning.According to IGIMS director Dr Arun Kumar the decision to resume classes were taken after a high-level meeting.He said the decision has been taken to ensure teaching at the earliest so that students do not suffer. The institute has decided to arrange extra classes in summer for the students.At the same time adequate security measures has been taken on the institute premises to prevent recurrence of any such incident in the future.Dr Kumar said that complaints have been received against some students and they would be figured out by a committee, comprising senior doctors of the institute. He said if complaints against them are found to be true they would be denied hostel facility. The committee would screen each and every student before allotting them hostel room, he added.

According to him a letter will be sent to the state government seeking establishment of a police outpost on the Institute premises.
