Rupam Pathak convicted in Purnea BJP MLA murder case

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Patna CBI court on Saturday convicted Lady Principal of a private school, Rupam Pathak, for killing Purnia BJP MLA Rajkishore Keshari at the latter’s residence on Jan 4, 2011.

The court found Rupam guilty and said the quantum of punishmentwould be pronounced on April 10. A charge sheet was filled against Rupam Pathak under Section 302.

Rupam Pathak had stabbed the four-time legislator Rajkishore Keshari with a sharp kitchen knife. She accused the MLA and his aide, Bipin Rai, of repeatedly raping and blackmailing her.

Immediately after the murder supporters of the MLA brutally assaulted Rupam and almost lynched her. However, she survived the attack.

Women groups in Bihar took to streets in her support and sought thorough probe into the circumstances which drove her to take such an extreme step. They had then demanded the sacking of deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi who dubbed Rupam a blackmailer immediately after the killing.

Rupam pathak has been lodged in the Beur Jail in Patna since March last year.
