Patna,(BiharTimes): When very few students are turning up to take admission in BA, B Sc and B Com––as most of them are opting for professional courses––the Patna University is coming up with idea of holding entrance test. Now marks in Plus-II exams would not be the criteria for admission in graduation course. | According to the Vice Chancellor of Patna University, Shambhu Nath Singh, students will have to qualify in a written test to bag a college seat. The argument is that it would help the university administration admit meritorious students. The process of admission to PU will start with the sale of forms from June 1. Sixty per cent of the questions in the admission test will be from the students’ Intermediate course. The rest will be related to general knowledge, mental aptitude and current affairs. The VC added the idea behind holding the admission test is to admit meritorious students, as it has been noticed that different colleges under the varsity are not getting good students. As students are admitted on the basis of marks obtained in the Intermediate or equivalent Class XII examination, many students turn out to be average or below average in merit. But the teachers are not sure whether the admission test would start from this year or not as it needs a long planning. Not only that there is acute shortage of teachers in the University. Many teachers are questioning the wisdom behind the concept of holding admission test when very few students are taking admission in graduation course. Once the admission test would be introduced the number would go down further, they feared.   comments... |
