Young couple killed in Patna at the height of Chhath festival

Patna,(BiharTimes): The rise in crime in Bihar goes unabated. The criminals did not even spare the auspicious Chhath festival to kill a young couple at their New Bhikhachak home under Gardanibagh police station of Patna.

The double-murder came as a big shock to both the residents and police officials as there is a general feeling that even criminals do not indulge in crime on this occasion.

The bodies of Shanker Safi (28) and his wife Ruby Devi (26) were found dead when their neighbour Chotu went to their house at 2:30 PM on Sunday to fetch water.

He saw the door of the ground-floor room open and blood coming out from inside. He immediately informed Shanker’s relative Arun Rajak, who lives with his family in the same locality.

Shanker is originally from Madhubani district and was a salesman in a private water purifier company. He got married three years ago and the couple did not have any issue.

Relatives rule out any enmity. However, Shanker’s bike is missing and one of the almirahs was open. Three mobile phones were found lying on a table.

The couple had been staying at the three-storeyed house of Shanker’s maternal uncle, Devendra Safi, for long. Devendra had gone to his native village in Madhubani to observe Chhath.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amrit Raj, who visited the spot in the evening, said the reason behind the murder was yet to be ascertained. Forensic experts have gathered evidence.

The police found valuables scattered on the floor but they think robbery could hardly be a motive to the crime. The SSP said the police were investigating the incident from all possible angles.
