President to visit Bihar from Wednesday

Patna, Oct 2 (IANS) Agitating contractual teachers in Bihar are up in arms against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for flatly rejecting their demands, and have marked their protest by taking out silent processions across the state.

Bihar Chief Secretary A.K. Sinha said that preparations for the president's visit have been completed. Mukherjee will formally launch the state's agriculture road map here, prepared by the state government to boost food, fisheries and animal husbandry industries.

Tight security arrangements have been made for the presidential visit to Patna and Darbhanga, Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Ravinder Kumar said. It will be the first visit of Mukherjee to Bihar since he became the president.

The five-year agriculture road map covers the period 2012-17 with an investment of Rs.1.52 lakh crore aimed at pushing up the agri-growth to a minimum of 7 percent a year, he said.

Sinha, the man behind the agriculture road map of Bihar, said its launch by the president will see a new beginning for the state's development in agro-sector. The agriculture road map is the first of its kind in the country.

Mukherjee will also attend the Darbhanga-based Lalit Narayan Mithila University's fourth convocation as the chief guest during his visit Wednesday.

Mukherjee is visiting Bihar on an invitation from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The invitation was given soon after Mukherjee was elected president.
