Rabri govt raised the demand for grant of special status category: Lalu

Patna,(BiharTimes): Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad said on Tuesday that it was the Rabri Devi government, which in early 2000, had raised the demand for grant of special status category to Bihar in the light of bifurcation of the state, for which an all party delegation had met Union ministers, including Nitish Kumar, who was then in the then Vajpayee cabinet.

Talking to reporters in Patna on Tuesday he said it was Nitish, who had then opposed the demand for special status category to Bihar, saying the Union government had already sanctioned a number of projects to the state. Now, the same Nitish is singing a different tune.

“If he is so serious about the fulfilment of the demand, he should come with us to launch an agitation,” Lalu said.

The RJD chief also claimed, that the proposal for special status to Bihar had been rejected by the National Development Council (NDC).

“Bihar does not fit the criteria for special status. NDC has rejected the proposal. Will the Nitish government now change the criteria for fulfillment of the demand?” Lalu asked.

The RJD chief said state would do better by seeking special package for all round progress.

He said Nitish is befooling the people of Bihar, ahead of the parliamentary polls as he wants to hide the failure of his government.

Ridiculing the chief minister Lalu said Nitish is working to emerge as the NDA’s prime ministerial candidate for the next parliamentary elections by seeking to rally behind him the people of Bihar to get special category status for the state.
