Rural development minister writes to Centre for upward revision of MNREGA wage

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar rural development minister, Nitish Mishra, has written a letter to the Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh urging the Centre to look into its notification regarding wage rates for unskilled work under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

As per the notification issued by the Centre the minimum daily wage to be paid to an unskilled labourer would be Rs 138 for Bihar in 2013-14. The state government has notified the minimum wage for unskilled work in agriculture employment at Rs 162 per day.

The letter said “If the state government decides to make payment at the state-notified minimum wage rate, then it amounts to putting an additional burden of 15 per cent of wage component on the state resources. The state would need to contribute Rs 630 crore over and above the prescribed state share.
