From national capital to ancient capital: Nitish trying to be at home in Rajgir

Patna,(BiharTimes): A week after firing his latest salvo on BJP’s likely prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, in New Delhi on April 14 Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar landed up at the ancient capital of Rajgir on April 21 to spend most of his last 10 days of the month there.

He often retreats from the state capital to this tourist spot in his home district of Nalanda and spends days relaxing. He was here for quite a few days in the last week of December 2012 too. In the last week of December 2009 he even held a cabinet meeting atop Gidhakuta Hills in Rajgir. It appears that for a few days the capital virtually shifts to Rajgir.

This time he is expected to draw his political strategy in Rajgir. He even cancelled his Monday (April 22) Janata Darbar and may come to Patna only when necessary.

On April 20-21 the Janata Dal (United) held the meeting of its Extremely Backward Castes Cell. The chief minister addressed the partymen on Sunday to get prepared for the early election. He called for backward castes unity and without naming his arch opponent Lalu Yadav accused him of dividing them.

Among others he was accompanied by water resources minister, Vijay Chaudhary, and another leader, Sanjay Jha.

On April 23-24 the Mahadalit Cell of the party would be holding a similar meeting in the same International Convention Centre in Rajgir.

Then he has called for a two-day interaction and training session at Rajgir on April 28 and 29.

BJP leaders are of the view that Nitish has deliberately cancelled the Janata Darbar as the fourth Monday of the month is fixed for the meeting of the NDA office-bearers and workers with the chief minister. They are of the view that the chief minister would a void to meet BJP leaders after so much of wordy duel with the saffron party.

However, he had last week shared dais with deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and animal husbandry minister, Giriraj Singh, a vocal critic of the chief minister at the foundation day function of Comfed in Patna. But that was a political meeting.
