Power-starved Bihar selling electricity to other states, charges Sushil Modi

Patna,(BiharTimes): The leader of opposition in the state Legislative Council and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi alleged that power-starved Bihar is selling electricity to other states.

Modi, who was also finance minister of the state, said he had specific information about sale of power. The state government is doing this to earn money.

Demanding purchase of an additional 500MW for providing eight hours of power in rural areas in view of the drought situation in the state he said the central allocation of power to Bihar is approximately 2034MW, of which nearly 500MW is sold out to earn money in order to minimize the existing losses.

The power consumption was restricted to  1,500MW in the state. The Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited (BSPHCL) has stopped taking 100MW of power from Damodar Valley Corporation.

Similarly, 300MW of power purchase from Adani group has also been discontinued, he said.

Out of the 1,500MW, he said, 750MW is given to districts, 350MW for emergency services and 400MW to Patna. The crisis is man-made, he alleged.

“We all know that except for Patna, there is no power in any part of the state,” Modi was quoted in the Times of India.

It remained a mystery as to why Modi did not oppose the sale of power by Bihar when he was in the state cabinet.
