Fodder scam case: CBI does not oppose Lalu’s plea in Supreme Court

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday did not oppose the plea of Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Supreme Court to change the judge hearing the fodder scam case.

Lalu filed a petition in the apex court stating that the CBI judge was a relative to P K Shahi, the education minister in the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar. His request came after the judge reserved the verdict in the case.

Instead the CBI, which was represented by Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran, opposed the intervention on behalf of Rajiv Ranjan Singh who questioned RJD chief’s move to change the judge towards the end of the trial.

Rajiv Ranjan Singh’s counsel, senior advocate Shanti Bhushan, contended it would be a “travesty of justice” if the judge hearing the case since 2011 was changed on the ground of bias, an objection raised just before the verdict was to be delivered.
