Curfew imposed in Nawada after clashes; DM, SP vehicles torched in Bettiah

Patna,(BiharTimes): Curfew was imposed in Nawada after fresh clashes between two communities that claimed at least one life and left five others injured on Monday. Thus the death toll now rose to two.
Nawada has been witnessing violence ever since Saturday.
Several shops and properties were ransacked and looted in renewed violence on Monday.
Earlier, one person Kundan Rajak died after he, along with two others, sustained gun-shot injuries in police firing on Saturday.
Police said that the clashes broke out on Monday morning after the news of the death of Kundan reached Nawada. He died at Patna Medical College and Hospital on Sunday.
However, other reports suggest that the three were injured in an attack by unidentified persons at a roadside eatery on NH 31 near Gondpur village under the Town police station.
According to District Magistrate Adesh Titirmare one person was gunned down by unidentified persons at Ansarnagar, while five others were injured in clashes at several places under Town and Bundelkhand police station areas during the day.
The two groups also fired on each other, attacked Bundelkhand police station and injured two men there. They also indulged in arson and looted shops and other properties, he said.
Meanwhile, the Nawada SP, M S Dhillon, said that the ASI Kamal Narayan Singh has been suspended on charge of dereliction of duty.
On Saturday there were reports of revolt against SDO and DSP by RAF, DAP and BMP personnel.
Curfew was clamped to control the situation and additional police personnel, including RAF and Special Armed Police were deployed in the sensitive areas of the town.
DGP Abhayanand and Patna Zone IG, S M Khopde and Magadh Range DIG rushed to Nawada on Sunday.
On the other hand police had to fire in the air and lob tear gas shells to control the riots in Bettiah in West Champaran district on Sunday. About 30 people, including several policemen, were injured.
Actually it started with a minor incident of stone pelting in Jora Inaar locality in Bettiah, which turned into full blown clash and arson.
The mob set ablaze the vehicles of district magistrate, Shridhar Chiribolu, and SP, Sunil Nayak. Besides, one more vehicle and four two-wheelers were torched
