State government departments owe Rs 800 crore power dues

Patna,(BiharTimes): May sound unbelieveable nevertheless true. Various state government departments owe the Bihar State Power Holding Company Ltd over Rs 800 crore dues against the electricity consumed till March 31, 2013.

According to reports the biggest defaulter is the urban development department which owes a whopping Rs 418.18 crore to be followed by minor irrigation department with Rs 160.47 crore. The Public Health and Engineering Department is next with dues of Rs 73.40 crore and health department, including medical education, owe Rs 31.27 crore and education department Rs 26.12 crore. In all 35 state government departments are the defaulters.

This has happened when the two distribution companies of Bihar face huge liabilities of Rs 2,974 crores for payment against power purchased from central public sector undertakings and power exchange.
