Nitish-D Y Patil meet in Mumbai hospital surprises political observers

Patna,(BiharTimes): Only two days after the Khagaria train tragedy Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday called on the ailing state governor D Y Patil in a Mumbai Hospital. The governor was hospitalized because of some heart related problem and has now recovered and out of hospital.

But the visit of the chief minister to Mumbai raised eyebrows in the political circle as what was the urgency behind it. Though the Janata Dal (United) spokesman, Devesh Thakur, MLC, tried to downplay it by stating that it was just a courtesy call grapevine has it that the trip to Mumbai had some political motive too.

“After all what prompted the chief minister to go and see the governor when he did not go to Masrakh where 23 children died of poisoning or Dhamara Ghat where 29 people, mostly women and children, were mowed down by speeding train. In fact he did not call on those who died in Chhath day tragedy in Patna last year,” asked a political observer.

There is no doubt unlike the former governor Devanand Konwar the relationship between D Y Patil and Nitish Kumar is very good. But it is more than good relationship which prompted the chief minister to call on him.

But Thakur, while talking to a section of media in Mumbai, denied that any political discussions took place during the prolonged meeting.

Observers are of the view that the meeting might have something to do with the relationship between Congress and Janata Dal (United). Besides, there is rumour in political circle that the chief minister is thinking in term of expanding his cabinet. But he had already denied this a few weeks back.

However, the meeting might have something to do with the recent Supreme Court ruling which quashed the appointment of vice-chancellors appointed by Konwar.
