Farmers’ stir for more compensation for IIT land 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Hundreds of landowners and farmers of Amhara village under Bihta block of the state capital on Monday forced the labourers to abandon the construction of building of IIT Patna, which is going on for the last few months.

Led by Ajit Kumar, they demanded additional compensastion for their land, including payment for orchard acquired by the government for IIT Patna.
However, the Patna district administration on Tuesday sent police force to resume the construction work. 

It needs to be recalled that a few years back the government acquired 1,700 acres of land for the construction of IIT Patna and other institutions. Of this 500 acres were allotted to IIT Patna for which, according to the SDO, Danapur, Avinish Kumar Singh, payment had been made.
Ajit Kumar, who led the demonstration and forced the labourers to suspend work, demanded the implementation of Bihar Land Acquisition Policy 2007 and implementation of similar rate for similar project approach. They also protested that the West Bengal-based firm, engaged in this work, is employing labourers from outside.
