Nitish’s statement on killings stirs hornet’s nest

Patna,(BiharTimes): “Bhai yah to hoga, murder ke peeche koi motive hota hai.”(This will take place. There is always a motive behind the murder). This statement of Nitish Kumar made at the Press conference on Monday stirred the hornet’s nest with the BJP leaders questioning as to how a chief minister of the state can say so.

Replying to a question on the murder of a doctor and rise in Maoists’ activities and other crimes in the state the chief minister said that murder takes place all over the country, in fact all over the world; so to link it with law and order situation would be wrong.

“Is there any place in the world where such incidents do not take place. Yes I agree there is always a motive. But can anyone stop such killings,” he asked.

He did not stop there but went on to ask: “Is not it that such incidents used to take place when they (the BJP) were in alliance.”

Nitish claimed that the average murder rate has come down, but to say that no murder would take place is ‘vichitra’ (quite surprising).

“When they (the BJP) were with us do they ever claimed that no such incident would take place,” the chief minister countered.

But his former ministerial colleague and BJP leader Giriraj Singh was surprised as to how can a chief minister give such a statement. By that criteria Lalu Yadav should have been let off as fodder scam was
committed by officials and thus he should not be held responsible.

He said that it was the same Nitish Kumar who during the Lalu-Rabri raj used to say that law and order in the district can be improved just by a superintendent of police. Now when the blasts take place in Gandhi Maidan on Hunkar Rally day his reaction was “Kaya koi mukhiya mantra rifle lekar baithe ga.”(Will a chief minister sit with a rifle in hand.)

He once again came down heavily on the chief minister for inducting into the Janata Dal (United) fold all the dreaded criminals. “Why not give tickets to all those lodged in Beur and other jails,” he said.

However, state JD(U) spokesman, Rajiv Ranjan, said that the chief minister’s statement should be seen in proper perspective. Crime takes place even in the best policed place of the world. If the crime takes place and no arrest and follow up action are taken only then the state government can be blamed.

“We have sent behind bars 83,000 criminals after speedy trial in the last eight years,” he said adding as to why the blasts took place notwithstanding IB warnings when the BJP was in power in Karnataka and of all the places in Gujarat.

“Why the BJP people are silent,” he said teasingly.
