Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as the talks with the district magistrate of Pana, N Saravana Kumar, failed the Building Construction Department secretary, Chanchal Kumar, on Friday sought to dispel the fears that the entrance of Magadh Mahila College (MMC) and Women’s Training College would be blocked by the construction of convention centre, Gyan Bhawan.
Meanwhile, the students announced that they would hold a march from College to the Assembly to press their demands. The Patna University Students’ Union is supporting them.
On the other hand, while talking to the media Chanchal Kumar said that a meeting was held with the principals of the two colleges to whom the department gave copies of the design of the proposed convention centre to clarify that the entrance would not be a problem. The principals, according to him, told the state government that they would discuss the issue with their colleagues.
He said that the only change that would take place due to the new building would be that the 'I'-shaped stretch would become 'L' shaped. The new route would open on the eastern side of Red Cross Society building and would take a left turn towards the gates of the two colleges.
The BCD secretary said the authorities of the two colleges in the meeting held with Brajesh Mehrotra, secretary to the Governor, Patna University VC Arun Kumar and he himself had on December 3 complained the proposed G+1 food court of the convention centre would block the sun from their campuses.
Chanchal Kumar said on Friday “we explained to them that the food court would come up on the southern side of the colleges and, as such, the sun won't be blocked.”
According to him the 'I'-shaped stretch is 112 metres long while the 'L'-shaped stretch would be 174 metres long. Besides, its width would be 40 feet, far more than what it is now. He further claimed that the new approach road to the colleges would be safer as it would be illuminated by street lamps, which are not there now. He also said if the colleges agreed, a police picket would also be set up at the 'L' junction of the approach road for the security of girls.
The BCD secretary said that the department is not taking even an inch of land from the two colleges. Instead due to this project, more than 1,800 square feet would be given to the Magadh Mahila College.
The convention centre is being built at a cost of Rs 274.2 crore. For this the residence of SP (City) and district judge, an MLA bungalow and the division office of BCD are in the process of being dismantled.
The international convention centre would have a capacity to accommodate 5,000 people at a time. Its parking lot would accommodate 500 vehicles at a time.
