The DM who got Advani arrested to join BJP

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former Union Home Secretary, Raj Kumar Singh, who as the district magistrate of Samastipur was instrumental in the arrest of Lal Krishna Advani, will on Friday afternoon join the Bharatiya Janata Party, whose prime ministerial candidate now is Narendra Modi. Advani was arrested on October 23, 1990, when he was leading a Somnath to Ayodhya Rath Yatra, on the order of the then chief minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav. He will be joining the saffron party on the day Parliament was attacked in 2001.

After serving on different posts in Bihar he went to the Centre to become the Union Home Secretary on July 1, 2011. He retired from that post on June 30 last.

Singh, a 1975 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre, is likely to contest Lok Sabha election either from Ara or Supaul constituency in Bihar. He is likely to join the party in presence of national president Rajnath Singh, former Union Minister and MP from Bhalgalpur Shahnawaz Hussain and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi, party’s Bihar-incharge Dharmendra Pradhan and Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

Recently, Nitish Kumar has appointed him as the Advisor on Infrastructure to the Chief Minister with cabinet rank after his retirement as home secretary.

Though the news came as a surprise there is no dearth of political observers who feel that BJP was the safest party for retired Raj Kumar Singh to join.
