Bihar cabinet reduces response time for various services

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar cabinet on Tuesday reduced the response time for various services, including residential certificates, caste certificates, police verification for passport, and driving licences, under the Right to Public Service Act.

According to cabinet secretary Brajesh Mehrotra under the Tatkal Scheme, the certificates would be issued within two days of filing applications without any extra cost.

In normal cases, the response time has been reduced from 14 days to 10 days.
For those applying for caste and residential certificates from resident commissioner in Delhi, the time limit has been reduced from 28 days to 14 days.

Before the cabinet decision, the maximum time given to district police for police verification for passport was 28 days, which has now been reduced to 14 days. The number of days allowed for issuing of learning and driving licences has also been reduced from 15 days to 7 days.
Similarly, international driving license would be issued in 15 days instead of 30 days.

The cabinet also reduced the time for temporary registration of vehicles from 15 to seven days and fitness certificates of vehicles would have to be issued in seven days instead of 10 days. The petrol pump licence renewal would now be done in 15 days instead of 30.

The Tuesday’s decision is a follow-up to the announcement made by chief minister Nitish Kumar on November 25, the day he presented the annual report card of his government, that some services would be available under a Tatkal scheme.
The RTPS Act was introduced on August 15, 2011, in the state. Under it people are entitled to certain services within a stipulated time frame at government offices. There is a provision in the Act for punitive action against officials who fail to provide the service within the deadline.
