Magadh Mahila College students win battle, but partially feel some

Patna,(BiharTimes): The state government on Monday conceded to one of the main demands of the students of Magadh Mahila College by agreeing not to block its entry. The decision followed a meeting held between a delegation of students and the chief secretary, Ashok Kumar Sinha, whose office later released a Press statement on Monday evening in this regard.

“The decision has been taken after obtaining inputs from building construction department secretary Chanchal Kumar. According to the initial plan, a dedicated 12-metre wide road was to be provided to the college. However, taking into account the safety concerns voiced by the students and teachers, CM Nitish Kumar directed us to find a solution to the issue and we decided to let the road be as it is,” the chief secretary’s statement said.

Earlier in the day students and teachers forcefully stopped the ongoing construction work of the convention centre at the civil surgeon’s compound. The teachers and students claimed that their main agitation is against construction of convention centre itself.

Some faculty members, like Prof Sashi Sharma, and students are not satisfied as they are of the view that the presence of convention centre would not be good for the girls of the College.

Sashi Sharma, , claimed that the centre would not only cause health problems but also affect the privacy of girl students. Her stand was supported by several students.

The other demand of the students is for more space, which is unlikely to be met as the government is in no mood to cut down on this dream project of the chief minister.

Building construction minister Damodar Rout also informed that the state government has decided not to change the approach route of Magadh Mahila College but would change the design of convention centre.
