Nitish orders probe into payment of Rs 25 crore as ransom for release of Gujarat businessman

Patna,(BiharTimes): The abduction and subsequent release of Mohammad Sohail (22) after the payment of Rs 25 crore as ransom money took a new twist with the chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday asking the police to go into the bottom of the fact and do not spare anyone whosoever he is.

Talking to the media in Patna he wondered as to why the Daman police informed the Bihar police after Sohail was released. He sought more information into the case so that the culprits involved in the case could be arrested.

It needs to be recalled that Sohail, son of Surat-based textile tycoon, Hanif Hingora, was abducted from Dharampur village of Daman on October 29. He was released on November 30 from Nayagaon in Saran district of Bihar.

This is the biggest amount ever paid to the kidnappers for the release of any person.

Hanif charged the nexus of politicians, criminals and police of Bihar with the abduction. He also claimed that ransom paid was not Rs nine crore as Bihar police claimed, but Rs 25 crore, and the exchange was completed in the house of a politician with the access to corridors of power. Hanif said he had paid Rs 25 crore and would prove it.

Talking to the media persons in Surat, he said that he had been called to pay ransom.

“I was taken to 40 different places before the payment was made in Patna. After the release of my son, what he told me about his experience proved that a big gang was operating under the patronage of politicians and police,” he said.

According to Daman police three persons have so far been arrested in this connection: two from Jharkhand and one from Chapra in Bihar.

“We received ample cooperation from the police of Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Odisha and Maharashtra, as a result of which we could catch three of the seven culprits,” Daman SP, Atul Kumar, was quoted in Hindustan Times as saying.

He said investigations so far had given some vital clues and effort was on to nab the remaining four accused, including kingpin, Dipak Kumar Singh. He is the brother of Ranjit Singh, who was arrested from PMCH, where he was admitted for some injuries sustained duing a fight in Chapra.

“Once we arrest we will be able to get the real picture as to who all are involved in the abduction and how it was carried out,” said the Daman SP.

Media reports said that after the safe release of Sohail on November 30, Hanif met Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and sought his intervention in the case. Surat police commissioner Rakesh Asthana confirmed that Hanif had met him a few days ago and sought help in apprehending the criminals involved in his son’s kidnapping.

Asthana, according to reports, said Hanif had submitted a petition giving vivid description of the incident and Sohail’s release after the payment of the ransom money. It claimed that a Bihar politician had played an important role in the payment of the ransom money to the abductors, who had strong political connections.

Asthana had earlier served in Bihar as a CBI officer and was associated with the fodder scam.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, has asked the Bihar government to come up with the name of politician, who played the role of go-between for payment of ransom
