26-year old assault charge framed against Shyam Rajak


Patna,(BiharTimes): Charges of assaulting policemen more than 26 years ago were framed against the Bihar food minister, Shyam Rajak, in the Fast Track Court of Patna, Pervez Alam, on Thursday.

Rajak was charged under Sections 307 (Attempt to murder), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of IPC and the Arms Act.

He, and four others were accused, in a case of attack on policemen near the residence of the district magistrate Patna during immersion of the idol of Goddess Durga in October 1987.

An injured policeman, Lakshman Singh, had then lodged a complaint at the Gandhi Maidan police station. The next hearing would be made on January 12.
