Nitish wakes up to Lalu reality

Patna,(BiharTimes): In a significant departure from the recent past the Bihar chief minister on Saturday chose to train his gun more on Rashtriya Janata Dal and its supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav than on the Bharatiya Janata Party and its prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi.

Addressing a Sankalp rally in Muzaffarpur Nittish Kumar, in an attempt to deflect people’s attention from widespread criticism of his government on law and order front, tried to remind them of what he said the dark days of RJD government, when people would not venture to step out of their homes after the sunset.

He chose to attack the Congress party too as it used to support the RJD government in Bihar then.

He said that Lalu Prasad is being treated as if he had gone to jail for participating in freedom struggle, when the fact is that he was convicted by the CBI court for his involvement in the fodder scam case.

The chief minister, said both RJD and Congress are equally responsible for sorry state of affairs in Bihar for 15 years.

Referring to the likely alliance between the Congress and RJD he said that efforts are on to bring back those dark days in the state. He said it was because of his efforts that in the last eight years rule of law has been restored in the state. He asked the people if they would like to see the return of those old days in Bihar.

Nitish reiterated his demand for the special category status for Bihar and flayed the Congress-led Centre for its delaying tactics on special package or special category status.

He said that his party would continue to struggle for the special category status for Bihar. It organized a massive Adhikar Rally in Patna on November 4 last year and March 17 this year. The party has made it very clear that it would support the alliance/party at the Centre which supports the demand of special category status for Bihar.

However, Nitish did not miss the opportunity to attack the former ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party, on this occasion. He entirely blamed the saffron party for the split in the NDA in Bihar. He said that the Janata Dal (United) joined the NDA on the agreement that disputed issues like waiving off Article 370, Uniform Civil Code and Ayodhya dispute will be kept out. But, in recent days, the BJP went back on the promise which forced his party to quit the NDA for the sake of principles.

.Apart from other leaders film maker Prakash Jha, was once again present in this Sankalp rally, the third in the series of a dozen the chief minister is to address.

Political observers are of the view that by concentrating more on Lalu Prasad than the BJP the chief minister has changed his stand. He has started getting a feedback that RJD is gradually emerging as a much bigger challenger to him than the saffron party, which is mobilizing people just on the bassis of the presence of Narendra Modi, the prime ministerial candidate.
