New Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS) Upbeat over the party's recent success in assembly polls in three states, the BJP Tuesday said it will soon launch a "Modi for PM" campaign, aiming to win the required majority of 272 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats in the 2014 general elections.

"The BJP is approaching the 2014 polls with full confidence to win 272 seats on its own," party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters after top party leaders reviewed the 2014 campaign strategy.

"The state results show that the BJP is being pursued by people as an alternative. The campaign will focus on good governance and hope that the BJP symbolises," he said.

The 272 is the simple majority mark needed in the Lok Sabha for any party to be able to form a government.

As part of the plan, the BJP will launch a "Modi for PM" campaign to reach out to around 100 million households seeking their votes and donations, party leader Ananth Kumar said.

"His (Narendra Modi's) image will attract voters. The country is looking up to the BJP and Modi," he said after a meeting of the BJP parliamentary board headed by party chief Rajnath Singh.

"We will seek votes and donations ranging between Rs.10 and Rs.1,000 from around 100 million households across the country for the 'Modi for PM' fund," he said.

Ananth Kumar said the idea was taken from Jayaprakash Narayan's movement in the 1970s.

Ahead of the 2014 polls, the BJP will bring out a "chargesheet" highlighting the "black decade of UPA rule" besides a vision document and a manifesto, party leaders said.

Javadekar said that with around 120 days to go for the general elections, the party will devote 60 days each to preparation and campaign.

The party has also launched a website india272.com, which has registered over a lakh volunteers since Dec 22, he said.

Noting that "organisation was its strength", Ananth Kumar said the BJP will complete meetings of booth-level workers by Feb 28 in 450 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country.

It will also hold meetings with intelligentsia and local communities like fishermen, weavers etc.

The party will also start a drive next month to felicitate and register young voters.

Rajnath Singh congratulated the party's chief ministers for the electoral success in the recent assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

He asked the chief ministers to keep up the momentum in the run-up to the national polls.

Party veteran L.K. Advani, prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi and four BJP chief ministers - Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh, Raman Singh of Chhattisgarh, Vasundhara Raje of Rajasthan and Manohar Parrikar of Goa - also attended the meeting.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and her Rajya Sabha counterpart Arun Jaitley were also there.

The BJP will also celebrate Dec 25, the birthday of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as "good governance" day and highlight the achievements of the National Democratic Alliance's 1998-2004 regime and that of its state governments.

Ananth Kumar also said "there is a situation like 1977 and widespread public anger against the ruling Congress".

"People will present the BJP as a national alternative," he added.
