Name of one information commissioner to be announced on Dec 27

Patna,(BiharTimes): At a high-level meeting to be chaired by chief minister, Nitish Kumar, and to be attended by the leader of opposition in the state Assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav and parliamentary affairs and energy minister, Bijendra Yadav, the name of one information commissioner is likely to be finalized. The meeting is scheduled to take place on December 27.

Though there are five sanctioned posts in the State Information Commission, it never had more than three members, including the chief information commissioner (CIC).
Ever since the retirement of Farzand Ahmad in the second week of June there has been only one commissioner apart from the CIC.
Even the lone information commissioner, Vijay Raghavan, is now on leave. He is to retire in May next.
So practically the SIC has just chief information commissioner, RJM Pillai. Both he and Raghavan are former bureaucrats while Ahmad is a retired journalist formerly associated with India Today.
At present Pillai faces over 1.5 lakh applications of which 1.18 lakh are in hearing stage.
It needs to be recalled that the Patna high court had expressed concern over the vacant posts in SIC, which was coming in the way of disposal of cases and even resulting in disposal of cases without any result.
RTI activists say that this is the condition of the state which claims to have done so much in the field of Right to Information.
