Congress, JD(U) reject Raj Kumar Singh’s charges

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former Union home secretary Raj Kumar Singh’s serious allegations of corruption against UPA government at the Centre and the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar have evoked a sharp reaction from both the Congress and Janata Dal (United) while Rashtriya Janata Dal has demanded an explanation from the state government.

Raj Kumar had, during a Press conference in Patna on Friday had accused the Bihar government of being soft towards the terrorists as well as Maoists. Former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi was also present during the Press conference.

While Janata Dal (United) on Saturday rubbished the charges and called it as sheer political opportunism the media incharge of the Bihar Congress Prem Chand Mishra, in a statement, said that the party wants him to clarify as for what end Raj Kumar Singh wanted to go to JD(U) first and later changed mind to join BJP.

Mishra said Singh levelled serious corruption charges against Nitish Kumar government in Bihar forgetting the fact that BJP was part of it for seven-and-a-half year. He said that his party is of the view that anybody can join politics after retirement but if an officer who always occupied ‘creamy posting’ joins a party, then he does so to “fulfil personal greed than serving people.”

He said joining of BJP by Raj Kumar Singh and former petroleum secretary R S Pandey proved that they had “collusion” with the opposition BJP.

On Friday Singh had also said the political parties like RJD or the JD(U) are not his choice because they are not serious about matters related to national interests, internal security and corruption.

The former Union home secretary, once a blue-eyed boy of Nitish Kumar, who even offered him the post of Infrastructure Advisor (a rank equal to a minister in Bihar), had accused the state government of being corrupt. He even went to the extent of stating that money used to change hands for transfer and posting of officers.

According to him there is no difference between Congress, RJD and JD (U). They are the same.

He also criticized the state government for its inaction against Maoist violence. While other states are taking action against Maoist activities in Bihar the police has been restrained.

“We used to send alert and leads on terrorists making their sleeping cells in Bihar, but the state government did not react. But when police from other states came and picked up terror suspects, Bihar government objected it,” Raj Kumar Singh said while referring to his days as Union home secretary.

When journalists asked why he refused to be a part of the JD(U) government in Bihar when Nitish Kumar had chosen him to be his adviser on infrastructure Singh said it was because the chief minister had repeatedly ignored the Centre’s advisory and alert on internal security and Maoist violence besides the fact that the state was “seeped in corruption” down to the district and block levels.

Interestingly, the state cabinet had approved the post of infrastructure advisor and his official chamber was also being refurbished.

He charged that the good governance had vanished from the state and corruption reigns supreme everywhere.

Meanwhile, the RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui, on Saturday asked the Janata Dal (United) government to respond to the charges levelled against it by Raj Kumar Singh.
