Plus-II exam hits Surya Namaskar in Bihar, issue raised in Assembly too

Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as Surya Namaskar programme was organised on Monday across Bihar and elsewhere in the country on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary controversy cropped up in the state Assembly as an RJD MLA accused the Nitish government of thrusting the RSS agenda on all the people.

Media reports suggest that around two crore school children took part in the mass Surya Namaskar programme across different states. The schools were urged to organize special assembly at 10 am for mass Surya namaskar.

However, in Bihar the programme became a victim of poor planning of officials. It was from Monday that Bihar Board Plus-II exam started, thus Surya Namaskar could not be organized in a large number of schools.

Besides, the state government had to make the notice optional or voluntary as there was protest from minority institutions.

It was on this issue that the treasury and opposition benches locked horns in the state Assembly for about 10 minutes during Governor’s address.

RJD MLA Akhtar-ul-Iman accused the state government of thrusting RSS agenda on the people by making the students offer Surya Namaskar in schools.

As soon as he raked up the issue, the treasury benches led by the Health Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey and Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Giriraj Singh (both BJP) swung into action and condemned Iman for his remarks.

Some BJP legislators led by Nityanand Rai trooped into the well of the House and advanced menacingly towards the RJD MLA before senior ruling and opposition leaders pacified them and asked them to resume their seats.
