Uncertainty over new BPCC chief persists

Patna,(BiharTimes): Ten months have lapsed since the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) had on March 11 last unanimously authorized the Congress president Sonia Gandhi to nominate the next state party chief yet she has not named anyone till now.
Now a section of party leaders are hopeful that the name would be cleared after the Jaipur Chintan Shivir to be held on January 18-20 to discuss political and economic situations and seek new ideas to strengthen the organization ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

However, many Congress insiders are not very sanguine about it as the party is not much interested in Bihar. In fact before the Lok Sabha election state Assembly elections are to take place in over half a dozen states in 2013. This includes Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Tripura and Madhya Pradesh.

Anyway the scenario in Bihar is of uncertainty as the present president Chaudhary Mehboob Ali Kaiser had resigned from his post after the humiliating defeat of the party in November 2010 Assembly polls. The party could win only four out of 243 Assembly seats.

On the other hand the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had recently released a list of the party in charges for 40 Lok Sabha constituencies and nine divisions in Bihar. But these newly-appointed leaders are in a fix as there is indecision over the name of new state party chief.

But a state Congress spokesman Prabhat Kumar Singh was quoted in the media as saying that by nominating in charge leaders for all 40 Lok Sabha constituencies and nine divisions, the AICC leadership had made it very clear that it was not going to nominate a new state president soon.
