RJD MP Umashankar Singh is dead

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Rashtriya Janata Dal MP from Maharajganj Lok Sabha, Umashankar Singh, died at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi on Thursday.
He was 72 and survived by his wife Maya Devi and four sons.

He was admitted to the AIIMS for treatment of pneumonia and lung infection.
A five-time MLA, he was elected MP from Maharajganj in 2009 and was one of the four MPs of Rashtriya Janata Dal.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad condoled the death of Umashankar Singh. The RJD chief, who came to party office in Patna on the occasion of the 89th birth anniversary of socialist leader Karpoori Thakur, led his party members in observing a minute's silence to condole the death of the MP.
Before joining RJD Umashankar was the leader of Samata Party Legislative Party. However, he later switched over to RJD and in 2009 defeated Prabhunath Singh of Janata Dal(United) even when there was NDA wave all over the state.
Born on Jan 17, 1940 at village Renuwa of Siwan district he had been elected to the Assembly for the first time in 1977 from Maharajganj and had served as MLA five times till 2005 on tickets from various parties.
His family said that he had visited Chennai and Goa as a member of a Parliamentary Committee recently and fell ill soon after coming back to New Delhi.
He was admitted to AIIMS on January 18 after suffering from pneumonia. Singh was earlier treated in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital this month. He was a member of Lok Sabha's Committees on Railways and on Empowerment of Women.
Last year he collapsed in Lok Sabha when the session was going on.
