Jharkhand dismisses six officials convicted in fodder scam

Ranchi, July 4 (IANS) The Jharkhand government has dismissed six officials convicted in the multi-million-rupee animal husbandry department (AHD) scam, popularly known as fodder scam, an official statement said Thursday.

"Jharkhand Governor's advisory council has decided to dismiss six officials convicted in different fodder scam cases," said an official press release.

The six include veterinary doctors Sandip Kumar and Krishna Kumar, project directors Shailendra Bharti, Deepak Kumar and R.N. Pandey and AHD official B.N. Pandey.

The multi-million-rupee fodder scam in Bihar had surfaced in 1996. Around 54 of the 61 cases transferred to Jharkhand when it was carved from Bihar in November 2000. Different Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) courts have passed judgment in more than 43 cases.

Two former Bihar chief ministers - Lalu Prasad and Jagannath Mishra - are accused in five cases. The verdict in one of the cases is expected July 15.
